Saratoga Lake is 8 1/2 miles long and up to 1 1/2 miles wide. The main body of the Lake is 4 1/2 miles long and stretches down another 4 miles into an area about 1/8 mile wide called Fish Creek. The deepest spot in the Lake is 96 feet. Another waterway in the region is the Hudson River, which is a river approximately 315 miles long. It begins on the northwest slope of Mount Marcy, and flows south past Glens Falls, Albany, Kingston and Newburgh before emptying into the Atlantic Ocean. The northwestern section of the county is bordered by the Adirondack Mountain Range which has 100 peaks of more than 1,200 feet in height. Mount Marcy is the highest of these, and is also the highest in New York State at a height of 5344 feet. Jobs In Saratoga County, retail trade is the largest of 20 major employment sectors. Interesting Facts The Saratoga Battle Field is the site of, 'the turning point' of the American Revolution. Located in Stillwater, just minutes away from the downtown business district, it is home to the 154.5 foot Saratoga Monument. Other significant historical sites are the Historical Society of Saratoga Springs Museum and Grant's Cottage. Saratoga has received several awards: the National Trust for Historic Preservation's "Dozen Distinctive Destinations" award, American Heritage Magazine's "Great American Place" and Sports Illustrated's "Top 10 Sports Venues in the World."
